6th Annual Tough Mudder a Huge Success!

On Saturday, May 21st I completed the 6th annual Tough Mudder run for Sarah Kilby (my daughter).  This year I chose to run the Philly event, which is held 10 minutes from where I grew up, and attracted 7,000 participants over the weekend.  Two good friends, Tommy Taylor and William Lawless were great teammates on Team Sarah.
The course was a 10.5 mile trek filled with over 20 physically and mentally challenging obstacles.

It was an amazing 4 hours.  The start is always very emotional for me as I pluck my SDSF red bracelet and think of Sarah.  Knowing what she has endured, and most likely will have to go through in the future inspires me.  Any pain felt on that day is nothing compared to what kids like Sarah go through during everyday life.  I also had many people ask me during the day “who is Sarah?” which allows me to explain SDS and  direct them to the website on the back of my shirt.  Mudders are a big family and I had many well-wishers and god blesses directed towards her.

This year I had a goal to raise 15k.  I came in just shy, raising around $14,250.  I was blown away by the support and want to thank all my friends and family who generously donated to SDSF.  I also especially thank my wife Kate and youngest daughter Leah.  They allow me to train and focus on this run, sometimes occupying  too much of my time and mind.  Lastly, and most importantly, to my daughter Sarah.  You don’t  know how much I admire your strength,  and how proud I am of you.  You are not only the Toughest Mudder in our house, but the toughest person I’ve ever met.
